Logitech MX Master 3S for Mac [Review]
Few are the products that I get to review each and every single generation of. I’ve gone through the original MX Master mouse right here in 2016, followed by the MX Master 2S that improved the tracking and the battery life, and finally in 2020, the King was back with the MX Master 3 with improved precision parts and more metal parts for a very BMW-like feeling!
How can Logitech make this King even better? Let’s find out how the MX Master 3S for Mac does even better!
Design
On the outside, the MX Master 3S for Mac looks identical to the MX Master 3. I have yet to find a physical difference in terms of feeling or usage. The internals were updated as the mouse now comes with a Logi Bolt dongle in its MX Master 3S version, while the Mac version comes without a dongle. The only other obvious difference is the cable ending in USB-A for the regular version and USB-C for the Mac version.
You still get the awesome clicking and scrolling experience that is hard to describe. The wheels and buttons have a premium quality to them, and they are very silent, making it perfect for sharing an office with your partner.
It can now scroll 1,000 lines per second with much better accuracy. You click the top button to switch from a clickable wheel to a free-rolling wheel and get to use warp speed in your documents!
Features
- 8,000 DPI laser tracking
- Compatible with MacOS, iPadOS
- Quiet comfort clicks and wheels
- Scroll 1,000 lines per second
- App-specific configuration
- 70 days battery life, 3h of use from 1min of charging
- Bluetooth Low Energy, compatible with Logi Bolt
Performance
The one reservation I had with this mouse was the fact that it did not come with a dongle. Over the years, I’ve had issues with the MX Master line and the reliability of Bluetooth on Macs. I’ve always preferred to use the dongles, as I get a perfect connection with them.
This is actually the very first MX Master mouse for which I did not have any issues with Bluetooth. UPDATE: After months of use with Bluetooth, I’ve moved on to the Logi Bolt that came with the Wave Keys keyboard. The connection is still rock solid; I had no real reason to switch except that I had never used a Bolt connector before!
The battery life remains great, charging is super fast, and you can even use it while charging, unlike the harpooned Magic Mouse. Even if you don’t want to use it while charging, a bathroom break’s worth of charging time will keep you working all day!
It comes in both Pale Gray and Space Gray to match your setup. I’m a big fan of black and space gray devices since they match so well with my walnut desk. There are also many updates to the Logi Options+ software where you can configure the mouse to work differently with each app you use, making it behave in ways that speed up your work!
Conclusion
Once again, the MX Master 3S mouse is the King. Nothing to change on it; for me, it is the ultimate form of the MX Master mouse! It works perfectly, charges quickly, and lasts for months. The feeling is great, the quality is amazing, and the flexible software features make it work even better for very demanding users. And if you need or prefer a dongle, the MX Master 3S comes with the Logi Bolt!
Pick one up today and you will not be disappointed! It’s the best mouse money can buy!
