Nomad Card Wallet Plus [Review]

One of the most important things a company can do is differentiate itself from all the other products out there. In the accessory scene, few companies are going as far as Nomad to not only bring out kick-ass wallets, Apple Watch bracelets, and iPhone cases, but they even produce some very cool tech products to go with their wallets!

The Card Wallet Plus is a card wallet that on the surface might seem like a simple card wallet like all the others that have crossed your path. However, Nomad had to customize this wallet with their magic touch, and the “Plus” moniker is there for a reason. It comes with the Tracking Card—a thin, AirTag-like device that can not only help you find your wallet but also fit inside a regular pocket of your wallet!

Nomad Card Wallet Plus

Design

The Card Wallet Plus takes on a classic card wallet design, as the name implies. It can hold 14 cards, or 10 cards and folded cash, and has an extra card slot on the inside—the same kind of slot found on the Nomad Bifold wallet I reviewed previously.

You get the same high-quality fit and finish found on other Nomad wallets. This means very precise stitching, pill-shaped card pockets, and quality edge finishing. In leathermaking, you can either finish your edges with an oily substance like Tokonole and use friction to seal the leather, or you can use edge paint that will form a flexible, rubber-like finish in your chosen color.

As you can see from the pictures, I reviewed the English Tan version using Traditional Leather rather than Horween leather like last time. I’m a huge fan of Horween, but I wanted to try another color.

Up to 14 cards!

Features

  • Holds 14 cards at maximum capacity
  • Fits 10 cards with room for folded cash
  • 5 card slots and one external quick-access slot
  • Thermoformed leather shape
  • Full grain, sustainably sourced leather
  • Wirelessly recharge Tracking Card on any Qi or MagSafe charger

Performance

The experience of unboxing the Card Wallet Plus is just like every other Nomad product—it’s a quality box and a pleasure to open and discover your new wallet! Astute observers will notice that Nomad uses an ok o-keep anti-mold chip to prevent mold from growing on the product.

You see, mold is always a problem with natural leather, as it can very easily start to grow on leather surfaces if the right conditions are present. This sticker in the box prevents mold from growing, ensuring that if the product sits on shelves for 6 or 12 months, it will be clean and mold-free when you open it!

The wallet uses thermoformed leather to ensure everything is perfectly aligned and cut as it should be. I appreciate the pill-shaped card pockets and the fabric on the inside of the wallet. The number of pockets is generous, and the choice of a slip pocket that can accept either cards or cash is practical.

The product is strongly made. I’ve been using it for weeks filled to the brim, and it’s still holding up great! Not surprising, after all—it’s a Nomad product!

Tracking Card

Let’s talk about the Tracking Card now. This is something that everyone wants at some point: an AirTag that will fit inside a wallet without being super thick and rounded. I mean, there are solutions to that, like the M1 Wallet with AirTag, but you can’t escape the size of an AirTag in your wallet.

Unless you are Nomad and you decide to make your own AirTag card basically! The Tracking Card is just that—a Find My compatible tracking device that allows you to know when your wallet goes missing or where it is when stuck between the couch cushions. It is only two credit cards thick and can go for over 5 months without a charge.

Contrary to Tile devices, when the battery runs out, you don’t have to replace it; you just put it on a Qi charger or a MagSafe charger and you’re good for another 6 months!

It is not an AirTag per se, meaning it does not leverage the U1 chip to locate the device precisely, but you can still send it a beeping signal. I can hear it on the other floor, so even in a large house you can easily hear it and locate it. It has the same features as other Find My devices, like contact sharing information, notifications when left behind, and the ability to share the item with someone else.

Conclusion

I kind of feel like a broken record at this point. Another Nomad product and another highly recommended item! Their wallets are some of the best out there, and when paired with quality leather and the Tracking Card, it can’t be any better!

The only thing I would add is more color options. There are so many amazing Horween leather colors. I’d be stoked to see a navy blue or olive green wallet—heck, even a mixed-color wallet like buck brown and olive green!

The Tracking Card has been hard to get my hands on because it is always out of stock. Being one of the few, if not the only one, that offers this form factor, MagSafe rechargeability, and long-lasting battery, this is to me simply the best wallet tracking card out there! Update: Nomad has released a Pro version that lasts 16 months!
