Logitech Zone Wireless 2 ES Review

The Zone Wireless 2 ES is an interesting product because it’s an on-ear headset that offers noise cancelling. You heard this right—they do not go around your ears like the Sennheiser Momentum 3; they rest on your ears and offer adaptive hybrid ANC. This is not something you see every day, and I’m very curious how effective they are!

On top of that unique feature, they have a particular design that makes them comfortable for all-day wear and even offer 25 hours of talk time on a single charge!

Design

The Zone Wireless 2 ES comes with a special band just under the headband that redistributes the weight of the headphones around your head. Most heads are not perfectly round, so there are always pressure points where all the weight is concentrated. It’s very easy to feel the weight over a long period when wearing headsets.

The cups themselves are made of very squishy foam that adapts to your ear perfectly. Even with large ears like mine, which are far from being flat, I feel the cups resting very well on my ears.

The mic swivels to easily mute your microphone by simply raising the microphone and the right cup. On the right cup, you have a single button to switch between the different audio modes. On the left cup, you have the volume, ON/OFF/Pairing button, and the action button. Everything seems to be well placed.

Features

  • Adaptive hybrid ANC
  • Intelligent noise-canceling mics
  • Custom-designed, 1.57 in (40 mm) speaker drivers
  • Switch easily between devices
  • Weight distribution headset design
  • 270° rotatable mic boom
  • Replaceable parts

Performance

I’m used to large headsets similar to the Sony MDR-7506 or the Sennheiser Momentum, so smaller headsets usually don’t satisfy me. I wanted to give the Zone Wireless 2 ES a chance because it seemed to pack a punch for such a small form factor.

The first thing I must say is that, once again, Logitech put in a lot of effort into the fit and finish of the product. From the headband to the cup material and the seams, it’s very Apple-esque and a joy to inspect up close!

Audio and ANC

The wear is interesting and intriguing. I’ve used memory foam, light foam, and many other types of foam in the past, but none that promised to seal my ear enough to actually offer active noise cancelling. The foam on the ZW2ES is doing a great job isolating the sound, and when I activate the ANC or the transparency mode, both work great!

The transparency mode is very natural sounding and has nothing to envy from the various Apple devices. As for the ANC, when set to the highest level, it works well for voice and sustained noise like a fan directly pointed at you. It’s not as good as the ANC of AirPods Pro 2, probably mainly due to their passive noise cancelling blocking the sound from entering your ears. It’s by no means bad. I would say it does about 85% of the job of the AirPods Pro 2. Quite impressive for small on-ear cups!

When playing music, you can definitely hear the custom driver delivering quite good sound quality. I’ve listened to rich classic rock with bass like Into the Mystic by Van Morrison, and you can definitely enjoy the lows and highs in that song. When playing something a bit more recent like Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai, you definitely hear the kick drum loud and clear. No distortion and just great sound!

Microphone

I tested the microphone in bad situations, meaning with music playing and even a fan directly in front of my face only 10 inches away. Even in that extremely harsh situation, the microphone was able to cancel out the noise, and I could hear myself back on the recording with minimal distortion. For situations where family members are around or if there are constructions nearby, you would have zero issues being heard on your Zoom meetings!

Conclusion

Surprisingly for the size, the Zone Wireless 2 ES are packing quite a punch! They are comfortable, light, and have great drivers! Music is very pleasing to listen to on these, and for large ears like mine, the earcups are very comfortable and do a good job cancelling noise. The microphones are great even in super harsh conditions where competing noise is trying to overtake them!

I’ve only had them for a week, but I have no troubles with the battery life, still being over 40% after well over 15 hours of listening and meetings. With large heads, they do a good job of distributing the weight appropriately with their comfort band.

I’m impressed, and I strongly recommend them for office work, coffee shop situations, or even around the home when working from home!
