Apple to buy Tesla in 18 months?

John Calacanis said something interesting yesterday.

Apple will buy Tesla for $75b in 18 months — it’s a lock (in my mind).

As much as Apple making a car is far fetch, especially giving all the money and effort Elon Musk as put into making Telsa Motors from the ground up, Apple buying Tesla is making sense.

They are both in California and Tim Cook is sharing Elon’s environmentalist values. They love design, luxury and have a commitement on both the hardware and software sides of things. Something you don’t really find in many products today.

Apple is indeed working to make Apple Maps better, perhaps even thinkering with autonomus cars, but buying Tesla now, that is before the big jump into more affortable cars with the Model III, it makes sens. If Apple waits too much, it will have to pay much more as I’m sure these little 30K$ cars will sell like cupcakes!
