I Welcome Our Rubik's Cube Solver Overlords

Being a fan of robots and micro computers and the project, you can build with this, this one was very fun to discover. Jay Flatland and Paul Rose build a robot that can solve the Rubik cube in 1 second.

They used a 3D printed hold that receives a modified Rubik’s cube on which they installed step motors on each side. Four cameras are reading the coloured squares and feeds the information to an algorithm that calculates the smallest number of moves possibles to solve the cube. Then, the step motors jump in and moves in order. They have repeated the process a few times in the video and the time always hover around the 1.1s.

They have applied to get the world record recognized. :)

But I’m wondering if this is how Skynet started…
