Apple TV to Offer Live Streaming of Channels
MacRumors is reporting that a new Apple TV feature has started to be offered to some users. The feature called Live Tune-In allows one to start the streaming of a live feed when the channel app is already installed.
To use Live Tune-In, Apple TV users can speak into the Siri Remote using commands like “Watch CBS,” or specifically ask to “Watch ESPN live.”
In the above example, you would need to have the CBS or ESPN app installed.
It’s not a full fledge solution to replace conventional television but it’s a first step in the right direction. TV stations are free to use whatever backbone technology they prefer to stream their content through their own Apple TV app. If enough apps do this, we should have most of the content we consume available in a modern format. Let’s just hope that they do not require an account and a TV package with the local TV service provider…
