Apple announced this morning that the App Store allowed developers to earn $20 billion in 2016. A new record, up 40% from the previous year. When you take into account that from the App Store inception the total money earned by developers is $60 billion, you see how great of a year 2016 was. It accounted for 1/3 of all App Store revenues!

“2016 was a record-shattering year for the App Store, generating $20 billion for developers, and 2017 is off to a great start with Jan. 1 as the single biggest day ever on the App Store,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing

I can only imagine 2017 will make that $20 billion look like simply a “good year” 😛
